Please reach out through the Contact Me page if you can't find an answer to your question.
The therapeutic relationship is the key to positive outcomes in therapy, so it is important to find someone you feel comfortable with. That may or may not be me, as every person is unique. I offer a free initial telephone consultation, so you can tell me what brought you to counselling and what you hope to gain from the experience. This consultation will give you the opportunity to ask me any questions you have and to get a feel for whether you would like to work with me. If I feel you may be better suited to a counsellor working with a different modality or with more expertise in your presenting issue, I will try to support you to find someone suitable.
Some people find it helpful to bring a notepad in case they want to write anything down.
Counselling is a team effort where we work collaboratively. While I bring experience and theoretical knowledge to support you, it is essential to acknowledge that you are the expert in your own experience. Theory only holds value when it connects with your lived reality.
Being as honest as you can in sessions is important. The more you participate in the work we do together, the more likely you are to find therapy helpful. The aim of therapy is to provide you with a confidential opportunity to explore personal and relational issues in safety and without judgement.
At the start of our work together, I will ask you what brought you to counselling and any goals you have. That said, I will always start a session asking you what you would like to focus on that day, so that you set the theme.
Many people find that keeping a journal to be a useful tool when they are having counselling. This can act as a way of further processing sessions and will sometimes identify other areas for exploration.
It is important that anyone who comes to therapy does so freely. If you are still deciding if counselling is right for you and have questions not covered here, I would be happy to try answer these.
No. I will be there to support you and perhaps offer some strategies and tools to help you come to your own conclusions about decisions you are facing.
I charge £50 per 50-minute session and ask for payment 48 hours in advance. If you don't show up for a session or cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, I reserve the right to charge for the session in full.
This depends on what you came to counselling for and what your goals are. I usually recommend at least six sessions initially.
Please use the ‘Contact Me’ form and I will get in touch with you to arrange a free initial consultation. If you would then like to proceed, we can agree a mutually convenient time for sessions.
I take your private information very seriously. Please find a copy of my Privacy Statement here
I offer appointments for mornings, afternoons, evenings as well as Saturday mornings. Please get in touch and we can agree a mutually agreeable day/time.
I work with adults. If you are looking for a therapist who works with children, there are many available. Please take a look at BACP (https://www.bacp.co.uk/search/Therapists), Psychology Today (https://www.psychologytoday.com/gb/counselling) or Counselling Directory (https://www.counselling-directory.org.uk/adv-search.html) for a list of therapists in your area.
